California makes up over 90% of the gross revenue of the US wine industry. And since 1995 wineries have doubled in the US, but it is not new upstarts on the west coast. It is wineries in Idaho, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas and places like Oklahoma and Nebraska that are responsible for this growth. Some of these (not all) are making surprisingly good wines--wines that are winning medals at national competitions.
